Cleaning the platen on a Seal Jumbo 150

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Printing & Finishing : One Thread

Hi,

I just picked up a used Seal Jumbo 150 drymount press with a really dirty, gummed up platen. Anybody had any experience cleaning a platen? I know that Seal makes a platen cleaner, but at $30.00/ 2 oz I thought I might try some other things first. Any thoughts on solvents/auto buffing compounds that might work as well as Seal's cleaner?

Looks like I can just take out some perimeter screws to drop the platen off - might make it easier to clean.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Why don't you contact Seal and ask them? Most manufacturers are very happy to provide support to customers(except, of course, for computer hardware and software, where it is the exception).

Try some fingernail polish remover (acetone). Try it on a very small area first and see if it does the trick--it dissolves most plastics.
