If you can afford to wait a bit longer (and pay a bit more) I'd wait for the Nikon D1x, which is now available in Tokyo for around US$3600. Fantastic quality pictures (as displayed at 16x20). The technology really is improving very, very quickly.

Try the Peninsula area. Main camera stores would be Cathay Photo and Camera Workshop. There area a couple of other stores in the area that sells "grey" items.

D30 or S1. D30 is a decent performer, especially if you own EOS lenses. AF is is typical of a mid range film based SLR. S1 quality is good, but unfortunately based on (which is IMHO) an low end Nikon F60 body. Thus the normal F60 restrictions (on lenses, with regards to AF and metering) apply.
