Hyperfocal distances for Minox 35 GT

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MINOX FAQ : One Thread

Martin, in your Minox Photography site, you gave a hyperfocal distance chart for various aperture settings on the GTE/GTX/GTS/35ML (in http://greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=000MxU). Does this chart apply to the GT as well? If not, do you have one for the GT? Thanks for your advice in advance.

Answers

Hoyin,

Yes, the chart applies equally to GT

Thank you so much, Martin. One more question: what's the minimum DOF range at each hyperfocal setting?

Hoyin There are two ways to use the hyperfocal distance H

A: Set the focal dial on Minox camera to INFINITY

Then the range of DOF is from H to infinity

For example, with F2.8 H =15, when lens set at infinity everything from 15 meter to infinity will be sharp

With F8, H= 4.6, when lens focused at infinty, objects from 4.6m to infinity will be sharp

B: Focus the lens at Hyperfocal distance H, then object from half of H to H will be sharp.

Example at F2.8 if lens is focused at H= 15 m, then object from 7.5m to 15 m will be sharp

At F8, if focus at 4.6 m then the DOF is from 2.3m to 4.6 m

Correction:

B: Focus the lens at Hyperfocal distance H, then object from half of H to INFINITY will be sharp. Example at F2.8 if lens is focused at H= 15 m, then object from 7.5m to infinity will be sharp At F8, if focus at 4.6 m (hyperfocal) then the DOF is from 2.3m to infinity
