electrical problems?

I have had my Canon EOS 500 for close to five years now. I put new batteries in the camera but nothing is happening. Any suggestions or comments on what is going on?

Thanks.

I had a similar problem with a Minolta I used to use; I used it in a misty area and some moisture got inside. It stoped working for about a day. That was two years ago and the camera works today (I don't use it though). No way of knowing what has caused your problem - I assume you took batteries out because it stopped working, thinking they were dead? Was the camera dropped, banged, exposed to miosture or anything else that may contribute to the problem? Oh, and I have to ask - did you install the batteries correctly?

This is a bit of a reach Mel, but you may wish to clean the battery contacts. Old batteries left in a device leave chemical deposits that may prevent electrical conduction. Wipe the battery contacts thoroughly with a soft cotton rag and/or pencil eraser. Blow out the dust or eraser crumbs. Radio Shack contact cleaner is even better if you have some around. You may wish to try another battery of the same type from another working camera (I've gotten bad batteries several times!). I bet a camera store will help you out.
