Exploreer Natural Gas Refrigerator/Freezers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have heard a great deal about the Servel brand, however these must be adapted to natural gas (at more expense)and then are not AGA certified. The Explorer brand has been around 40+ years and makes natural gas appliances, without adaptation, for less cost than Servel brand. Has anyone used one of these? Do you have any suggestions or concerns? I have asked about the Servel appliances before, but have just learned about the Explorer brand. There are many sites on-line with info and I have been to them and even sent ?s to the Explorer sales site as well. I just wanted to hear from someone who might be using one of the many sizes of this machine. Thanks.

I've heard Explorer has some great products, but I've never checked into them.

My main concern would be a low-cost, local source of natural gas...

Sue, here in SE OH and all over most of WV, where Anne is from, there is an abundance of free, no limit, natural gas on alot of properties and farms, makes a great selling point on an otherwise rundown farm, especially now with soaring petroleum prices!!!

Yes, and we have our own gas well here, so its all free and therefore all the more attractive. Maintaining the gas line and all natural gas equipment is up to us...can't call the gas company to light a pilot light or hook-up an appliance like we used to be able to do. The cost of the line and its installation has paid for itself now and it is now truly 'free'. Its the electric that is costly and we want to cut down as we can in hopes of a future with solar panels and wind turbine.
