Sex selective abortions in China

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

A few weeks ago I posted a similar article about India. How sadly ironic that a woman's right to choose in these countries is to choose to abort female fetuses. Well, maybe it is men doing the choosing.

Note that there are already social pathologies due to the sex bias.

I wonder if there is an abortion sex bias in Western countries too?

Here is another forum discussing the same issue. I have absolutely no knowledge of this forum. I found it on a Google search for "sex selective abortions".

OK. There are enough people in China using abortion to select the sex of their offspring that it shows up in the overall birth statistics. That is a fact. No denying it.

You find this fact "sadly ironic". The Chinese, for their presumption, are bringing upon themselves the law of unforeseen consequences. Ah, yes. The world is full of irony. But we knew that already.

As for sex bias in Western countries, the last I heard live female births in the USA still slightly predominated over live male births. My admittedly porous recall tells me it is something like 50.3% females to 49.7% males. Doesn't seem to be a problem here.

China has a one child rule which was inacted decades ago. Male children take care of their parents in old age and many other customs that makes it preferable to have a male child, so if they are pregnant with a female child they abort it due to tradition and concern about their old age.

Yep, they will have a bunch of males without spouses.

They will also have a great standing army, with nothing to lose.
