Terapin drop frames

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I am thinking of buying a VDR but haven't decided on a model yet. The Terapin in one of my options.

Recently I borrowed a Terapin VDR from a friend to try it out. It works fine for the first ten-fifteen minutes of recording, then it started dropping frames, moderately at first, and turns worst as time goes on.

I believe the timing between the Terapin and video source was out of sync. I tried filtering the video using Darim M-Filter via PC, and it helps a bit, but I think it defeats the purpose of having a stand-alone recorder when you connect it that way.

How do you solve the drop-frames in the Terapin?

My video source is clean, i.e. comes from DVD or satellite

I have a Terpain and I've been using it for 2 months now. I haven't noticed any dropped frames on my VCD's. Actually, it works great!

Hi, since you have the Terapin, can you tell me about the quality of the recorded VCD disk. Is the video quality excellent, good, average, poor ? How do you compare it to the commercial VCDs?

I also have a Terapin, and have had no problems. I like the quality. It is very close if not right on VHS in my opinion. I know that the Terapin captures in MPEG-1, and supposedly, they are coming next year with 3 or 4.
