Netherlands Train Crash Injures 7

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) -- A slow-moving passenger train collided with a freight train carrying sand, slightly injuring seven people.

The trains crashed Monday night at an intersection near the central station in Zwolle, about 50 miles northeast of Amsterdam, at a speed of 12 miles per hour, police said.

The engineer suffered light shock and the conductor was treated for a few ''scratches,'' authorities said. No serious injuries were reported.

The collision paralyzed rail service for hours. Railway spokesman Wim Rabelin said it would take ''a lot of hard work to clear the rail track'' after the cargo wagon tipped its load.

The cause of the collision was not immediately known.
