Pulling plastic pipe out of well casing

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

How would I or what is a way to pull the twin plastic pipes out of a 70 foot well to replace the ejector? I need to replace the 2 one inch pipes and the ejector. Can someone help me out on this one? Thanks

I don't know how the professionals do it, but when I needed to pull my pump I invited three big friends and bought a case of beer. We pulled it right out. (Hint: pull the pipe first, then drink the beer)

The guy around here has a contraption that he made. It's three small auto tires mounted on a frame and it has an electric motor. The pipe is compressed at the center where the three tires come together and the motor make the tires turn outward and lifts the pipe. When he comes to the end of a section, he stops the motor, he unscrews the pipe, unties the safety rope, and then continues to the next section. The first section has to be lifted up a bit to get the pipe into the tires. Thats just what I know of it from observation. I'm not the mechanical type, (that's the hubby's area) so I can't give you any more info on that.

I think the 3 big friends and the beer is a much simpler and fun solution, though. :o)

you are talking about the pipe for a Jet pump> Two guys, one pulling at the well, the other at the end of the pipe dragging it along to keep it straight. I have pulled 150' submersible pumps & pipe that way in the dead of winter when the pipe is full and stiff from the cold.

I guess there are all kinds of ways to do this.I just finished pulling the inner pipe of my well.(jet type). No amount of friends and beer would have gotten that one loose. We used a chain fall.Backed the pickup with ladder rack close to the well.Put a 3 inch steel pipe on ladder rack and let it stick out over the well head.Attached chain fall and pulled.Bent 3 inch steel pipe.Replaced with 4 inch steel pipe.Pulled again and it finally came out.It was a struggle all the way out.(120 ft).The problem was the outer washers.Over the 12 years they had been down there they had accumulated all kinds of rust and crud. They were really stuck.Once the pipe was moving, every time they passed a joint they stuck again.Try the easy way with friends but be prepared to get some heavy duty pulling equiptment if needed.Good luck!

Hendo's got this exactly right. Seventy feet deep, two one inch pipes should be no problem at all. (you may want to have some good gripping gloves, in case your pipes happen to be covered with slimey stuff, though)

Although you didn't ask, I can tell you that you normally should have the return pipe a size bigger than the down pipe. Talk to your pump dealer.

If you make the return pipe 1 1/4", it may improve you pump's performance. Better yet,. look at investing in a good sub pump. It's likely to give you a lot more water per kwh you use.

It just occurred to me that I had ASSUMED (always dangerous) that you were talking about poly pipe. There is no reason in the world to have a jet hung on steel pipe. If you do, though, it's going to be a hell of a lot more work.

What's your jet hung on?
