Yemen Blast Kills Ten, Injures Dozens

SAN'A, Yemen (May 19, 2001 11:46 a.m. EDT) - At least 10 people were killed and 50 injured in an explosion at a weapons market in the western Yemeni city of Rida on Saturday, a security official said.

The explosion took place at a traditional market where guns and gunpowder are widely available, the official said on condition of anonymity.

Radwan al-Saqqaf, an editor of the Yemen Times weekly in the southern city of Aden, said his reporters on the scene were reporting 30 dead and 50 injured in the blast in Rida, capital of Al-Baidha province.
