Where are my good bugs?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

Here we are in the middle of May. My fruit trees are blooming, my roses are budding and I am cleaning up my garden getting ready to set plants.

So far, I have not seen one honeybee or ladybug in my yard. I don't use any poisons, not even DE in my garden. Where are my beneficial insects? Are my neighbors killing them? Maybe the chickens eating them? I have ladybug lures in my trees and they are not luring anything. There is no shortage of aphids.

Anybody have ideas or advice?

Mine are just coming on strong now and I think we are about 2 months ahead of you here in Texas. Maybe you could buy some of the stay home Lady Bugs from Gardens Alive? Or if you can find someone who has been plagued with them, they might send some to you. Good luck Wrangler!!

I've seen a few out in the woods, but nothing at all cept mosquitos anywhere near town (central ID). There aren't as many out in the woods as I thought there would be by now, either. Only saw 1 ladybug, and maybe three bees... Even poured a little soda into a bowl, and still not much attraction. But, up here they've done three "controlled" burns, so I thought THAT might be the problem.

We've had honey bees for several weeks, but are just now starting to get lady bugs in NE Texas.
