Chicago firm recalls 78,000 pounds of pork

WASHINGTON, May 17, 2001 (UPI) -- A Chicago meat processor Thursday recalled 78,000 pounds of frozen pork loin chops because they contain undeclared allergens and an undeclared ingredient.

The Agriculture Department's Food Safety and Inspection Service said the pork chops contain corn flour, corn starch, eggs, non-fat milk and monosodium glutamate.

The recall involves Rymer Meat Inc., 30-pound cases of Dar Foods raw breaded bone in pork loin chops. The packages carry establishment No. 6972 inside the USDA seal of inspection, with production dates and lot numbers of: Jan. 24, 0223106-11; Jan. 26, 0225106-09; Feb. 19, 0501116-23; Feb. 20, 0502116-23; March 5, 0641116; March 12, 0711123; March 15, 0714116-23; April 6, 0925106-09; April 11, 0993109-12, and April 30, 1201116-20.

The pork chops were distributed to food service establishments in Florida, Georgia and Virginia. FSIS said the problem was discovered through routine testing and no illnesses have been associated with it. For more information call 773-650-0558.
