Can anyone tell me whatis the difference between EX and EZ speedlight? I see most of the cameras bear a circle-line symbol near the view-finder.What does it mean?someone told me that it means focal plane. I just dont understand.

"EZ" speedlites are capable of A-TTL metering with Canon "B" type camera bodies. "EX" speedlites are capable of E-TTL metering (and high speed sync and FEL) with Canon "A" type bodies. Both "EZ" and "EX" speedlites are capable of TTL flash metering with all Canon *film* camera bodies. The "EX" speedlites are the newest.

The circle/line symbol on the camera body marks where the film plane is. Use it for critical measurements (usually macro photography).

For what it's worth, EZ series speedlights are capable of A-TTL metering on both A and B type bodies according to a Canon brochure I was looking at last night. However, if you own an A type body (EOS 1V, EOS 3, Elan 7, Elan II, Rebel 2000, Rebel G) I see no reason to purchase an EZ series flash and give up all of the wonderful features that you get with an EX series flash.

I have both a 430EZ and a 420EX. When I put the 420EX on my A2 (older, A-TTL SLR) the TTL light comes on. However, there is no near-infrared preflash as in the 430EZ and A-TTL system cameras. It seems to only produce TTL flash on the A2.
