Kids finally arrived (Goats - General)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Well my doe, Smokey, finally kidded today. Seems like she's been bagged up forever. Snowed last night and she kidded this afternoon. Twins, a doe and a buck. Healthy and bouncing around, cute little devils. Dad is a Pygmy and mom is a Pygmy cross. I've been wanting a doeling out of her cause she's a good milker for her size. Have Annabelle to go yet, she's a first timer and has been bagging up for about a week now. She's an Angora/Saanen cross and was bred to my Pygmy buck, Bart. Still waiting on my two geese to hatch out their nests...probably another week. Seedlings are getting their first true leaves, I'll have to transplant to bigger pots. So, even though the weather doesn't reflect that it's spring everything else is.

Response to Kids finally arrived

Deborah,

Congatulations!! How exciting for you. Don't you just love spring?

On the other hand, I'm jelious!!! I never got around to having my does bred last fall so there will be no kids for me this year, so instead I will share in the joy of others. Thanks for posting. (By the way, I just bought a nice sannen buck, I get to pick him up in a couple of weeks and I am so excited.)

So nice to hear of an uneventful birth! Glad to hear also that you got a doe! Vicki

Congrats. Lots of times goats will wait for nasty weather to have their kids...in nature, preditors are less likely to be about. I have predicted the birthing of kids based on the arrival of a storm front many times...especially with a doe that seems to "holding on" to her kids.
