Gas stations plan for $3 gallon

LOS ANGELES, May 3 (UPI) -- Rumours that gasoline could hit $3 per gallon in parts of the United States this summer grew considerably louder Thursday with a published report that gas station owners are stocking up on the numeral 3 for their signs. The respected industry publication Platts Oilgram said companies that produce the familiar numerals used to post prices at corner gas stations across the country have been selling more "3s" in the larger sizes that are used to denote dollars. Pump prices for regular gasoline in California averaged $1.924 per gallon this week, according to the Automobile Association of America, with high-octane grades above the $2 mark.
