Any Homesteaders Looking in West Virginia? (Land)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Ann and I looked at this property and met the owner. She has some physical challenges, and has found a house on less land with running water and electricity.

The community DOES seem wonderful, and Roane county is apparently VERY homestead friendly!!!!

It is over 6 hours from where we are likely to be staying for 1 to 2 years or we would buy it. I wouldn't personally feel comfortable if I weren't able to be at the property more than every 2 or 3 weeks. (we obviously have not ruled it out).

Email me if you are interested and I will forward your info to the owner.

It has been on excite at this URL :

A West Virginia Farm is available : 2 bedroom, 1 bath, 1 story, 72 + Acres, with a barn and a small creek Price $64,000 built in 1850, the house in all honesty is not key here, but appears to be watertight. Location 612 Dick's Run Rd. Reedy (near Spencer), West Virginia 25270 Reedy school district Old farmhouse is liveable with Hardwood Floors, but needs work. Has a cellar room for roots. No electricity (solar panels stay), composting toilet, hand water pump for well. Old farm yearns for family with vision. Timber ready to sell, privacy and the best community that you can find!!! Hospital, WalMart, movie theater, grocery stores, feed mills - all 7 miles away.

I live in NorthCentral WV and am settled here, but wanted to add that there is an active goat community that meets in Spencer each month.

Yes,,I am looking for land (no house) in WV,,4-10 acres. I want to buy on "Land Contract" low down, (no down) low monthly payments. Need trees, (not to sell) for homey feeling,,,would like a creek or a couple natural springs on land,,good access, no restrictions,,no easements. A spot good to set up trailer and build. Want to be able to have animals and garden. Mostly looking in SE WV or E Ky. But would consider other places. Any information is appreciated...

Rick, Sounds good to us except that it is too far away. We own a house and 1.43 acres in Maryland. We are not exactly homesteading but tyring to live frugally, garden organically, have some chickens, homeschool, and live free.

We are looking for some land to get away to and camp on. Some place away from the neighbors where we can camp out and "rough it". Some place that would be an investment as well.

About the farthest away from here that we want to go is into the pandhandle of WV between Maryland and Virginia. Adams Co. (Gettysburg area) is do-able.

If anybody out there knows of anything, let me know.
