I want to take photos in while in Pittsburgh

Later this month I will be in the Pittsburgh area and though my hosts know the area around the city, they are not familiar with the downtown areas. If anyone knows the city and can recommend places may be good photo taking/ people watching areas, please help. I am not so much interested in historical landmarks, the fashion district, or any such 'normal' places.

We have most of the usual features: zoo, aviary, old buildings, night life. However, Pittsburgh is actually a fairly small city (about 500K people within the city limits).

What do you want to shoot? If you're after a certain image, I'll try to think of some places to go.

Here's the schedule for the local camera club for May (Tuesdays): 8TH: Astrophotography 15TH: Field trip to the South Side for evening street photography 22nd: Year end banquet and awards (let me know if you want to attend)

The Strip and the area near the new ball parks are both great places.

Also, the downtown area overall is small (only a dozen or so blocks across) so just walking around there is great.

The squirrel hill and oakland neighborhoods are also good choices. You can catch a bus pretty easily up to both areas from downtown. Oakland is where the two major universities are (Carnegie Mellon and Univ. of Pittsburgh). Take a 61, 71 or 67 series bus from downtown to get there.
