I'm working on a friends student film for Highschool. I got the 1st A.D role. What do I do?

A 1st A.D. is short for Assistant Director. Their duties include responsibilities that free the director from logistics such as getting the cast and crew organized, calling slate ( roll camera, speed, etc.), to organizing the elements to start the shoot. Basically, the director can concentrate on the creative aspects of making the movie. The AD takes the director's other responsibilities besides trhe artistics.

Basically, the 1st AD runs the show. The 1st is in control of the crew and set and allows the director to just concentrate on what goes on in front of the camera.
