New ACL book

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

Does anyone have any information on the new TLC book "The Atlantic Coast Line, Standard Railroad of the South" that is due out in June or July? I just saw the advertisement for this book in Classic Trains (Spring) with early-order discounts. Is the Society planning to offer this book through our catalog? Thanks, mvh

Wow-look what I started. Well, I will modify my statement-if the Society sponsors a book and needs pre-publishing orders-I will gladly do so. But, otherwise-----. One thing we alll agree on-Bill Griffin will do a wonderful job and is a top notch person. He is definately not a Peter Tilp!

Most societies and authors need the advance sale money to help cover up front costs,it really helps them. Two things happen with advance sales,1,you get a slight discount, 2,see above. Bill Griffin is top notch and I know him personally and will trust him with my money.

Gee, Mike. I thought I was the only chump who got $ 50 plus clipped from me by Pete Tilp. I guess that book never ever never happened, did it?

Based upon my past experience with TLC, add a few months to their often extravagantly optimistic forecasts. My other experience with early order discounts is don't. I once forked up $50 for a book on PRR Heavyweight Pullmans-only to see the sponsoring historical society walk away from the author, who then walked away with my money and that of numerous others. The author's name BTW, was Peter Tilp. When the book arrives-you buy it, otherwise you are giving an interest free loan to the publisher.

The author-Bill Griffin-based upon past experience and personal knowledge, will do a fine job. I am sure the book will be worth it- when it comes out!
