Dumbya's alcoholic daughter breaks the law and gets off easy!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

What happened to the new Supreme Court ruling for arresting people? Surely underage drinking is more serious than not wearing your seatbelt or littering! If this was John Q. Public they would have spent the night in jail and faced serious fines and expensive alcohol counseling. Why is an exception being made for Dumbya's daughter?

Bush's Daughter Cited for Underage Drinking

AUSTIN (Reuters) - President Bush (news - web sites)'s 19-year-old daughter received a citation on Friday for possession of alcohol by a minor, the Austin Police Department said.

Jenna Bush was one of several people cited for underage drinking shortly after midnight during a check for violations at popular city nightclubs, Austin Police Department spokeswoman Toni Chovanetz said.

Bush was drinking a glass of beer in a club with several other minors who also received tickets. ``Glass of beer -- drank from it,'' her citation read.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan declined to comment on the incident saying, ``It's a family matter.''

President Bush was in Austin on Friday but had no public meetings.

Police said Jenna Bush was not taken into custody.

``They (officers) gave her a field release citation and released her at the scene,'' Chovanetz said.

She said underage drinking was a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $200 or community service, as determined by the court.

Her court appearance date was set for May 2, according to the citation.

Jenna Bush is a freshman at the University of Texas at Austin. Her twin sister, Barbara Bush, attends Yale University. The girls graduated from high school last May.

PARTY-HEARTY: Barbara passed out on a Mexican beach filled with spring breakers.

Oh, those Bush girls!

President Bush's daughter Barbara flew to a Mexican resort for a spring break vacation -- that nearly turned into a tragedy.

Beer. Hunky guys. The hot Mexican sun. Tequila shots -- lots of them. It was a recipe for disaster for the 19-year-old Yale University freshman.

The ENQUIRER issue that hits stands on Friday reveals all the details of Barbara's Mexican misadventure -- which came just weeks after her twin sister Jenna narrowly escaped arrest for underage drinking at a wild fraternity party!

Well, shit howdy. Ain't she just like her Daddy now? (chuckle) Them apples don't fall far from the tree, 'ya reckon?

Just wait 'til the Wild Child gets busted for drugs. Or better yet, wait until she gets herself pregnant. Then we'll see how quick Dumbya's views of these social issues take an about face. This is gonna' be good. Waaaaaay better than the entertainment Clinton gave us. You GO, Jenna....you GO, Girl!

Aw shit. That's right. There's TWO of 'em. Better odds.

-- LOL (LOL@LOL.com), April 28, 2001.

Hey! Leave them girls alone! They're just following their father's example, which means they still have over 20 years left to destroy their brains before they get saved by Billy Graham.

We already know that they don't have to study to get straight A's at Yale, Dumbya is living proof of that. As long as they have a wealthy father with political power they don't need to use their brains!

So looks like someone was watchin Hannity/Colmes last nite...lol.

In most states I am familiar with, you can lose your drivers license for underage drinking. Does anyone know the statutes in Texas?

-- Enlightenment (gone@away.now), April 28, 2001.

SOME clubs get shut down for SERVING minors. I guess others don't. My daughter No. 2 flew in yesterday and went to a club last night with daughter No 1. #1 is 22 and #2 is 19. #2 said to #1, "Well, since YOU'RE driving, I guess that means *I* can drink." I said, "You're underage." #1 then said, "I'd thought about lending you one of my ID's, but it would look pretty funny if we both went in with the same names." She further added that SOME clubs have the police scan the ID's at the door to see if they're false, while other "mom and pop" clubs allow kids to drink even if the ID they carry has a picture that looks NOTHING like them.

I'd seen a documentary on the History Channel a few days' past regarding the history of drugs in America from 1900 to present. I asked #1 if Ecstasy was still offered in some clubs. I'm pretty stupid regarding today's drug offerings. The documentary had mentioned how guys would give girls Ecstasy to further their goal of sexual advances. What I didn't know was that there are two types of Ecstasy...one heroin-based, and one speed-based. I also learned that they're more commonly offered at "Raves."

#1 has been to two Rave clubs. It seems that both times she tried Ecstasy. The first time she got the heroin-based form and pretty much just slumped back in her chair all night. The second time she got the speed-based form and could dance all night with no fatigue. I asked why Ecstasy had been associated with sex and she couldn't really explain that herself, except to say that either form resulted in an inability to climax. Having heard that some men experienced impotence from Marijuana, I asked if this was the same. She said, "Not at all. You can 'do it' for HOURS, but neither the male nor the female will ever climax." Jack Nicholson came to mind.

I think most kids go through stages of experimentation. I sure know *I* did. I hid it from my mother. My kids don't. There's a "learning" thing that goes on, IMO, if kids try stuff and find out the effects. I may feel differently if they said things like, "I got drunk, threw up, and passed out, and I can't wait to repeat that experience." I may even feel differently if they said things like, "I LOVED Ecstasy, and can't wait to try it again." So far, what I've heard is, "That second pop of LSD gave me a backache for two days." and "Ecstasy can either ruin your evening or enhance your evening, but it's just not worth taking the chance on which it will be."

I don't think it's "fair" [for lack of a better word] to throw any President's daughter up as a role-model [either a good one or bad one.] It angers me that kids can't get student loans because they tried Marijuana when they were 15 and are put in a position wherein they must either lie about it on the form or be denied the loan. I DO see a hypocracy in that one.

How does this work exactly? I mean aren't there Secret Service guys with all presidential children at all times? Do they get to watch while Jenna pulls a train with the frat boys?

-- Lars (larsguy@yahoo.com), April 28, 2001.

No, they don't get to watch, silly. They're on the other side of the door of the frat boy's bedroom. But if they stand there real quiet, they at least get to listen.

-- Shhh (IcanHearIt@Now.com), April 28, 2001.

Hey speaking of tequila...

How ya feeling today, capn? heehee

-- (cin@cin.cin), April 28, 2001.

Lars: It's my understanding that the job of the Secret Service Agents is to protect the kids from HARM...not protect them from fun. Remember the movie I mentioned on Poole's Forum? I think the title was My date with the president's daughter. In that film, the agents drove along in the same car as the couple, and when they went to a movie, the agents stood at the back of the theatre keeping one eye on the movie shown and another eye on the couple.

The goal of the couple was to "ditch" the Secret Service and attend a dance. The girl started making advances on the young man and threw him to the floor in the theatre. ONE of the two SS agents started to move, but the other said, "Wait a minute. Our job is to protect the President's daughter, and it looks to ME like it's the young man that's being threatened at this point." Of course once on the floor of the theatre, the young couple was able to crawl up the aisle and escape from the theatre while the SS agents thought she still had the boy pinned to the floor.

I would think at 19 the agents are more lenient in what's allowable behavior. There's no reason to believe that a club would contain a terrorist intent on shooting a President's daughter, especially if the trip was spontaneous. If the trip were planned in advance, I'm sure agents would have checked for bombs or even frisked anyone entering the club. The same would hold true for a "frat" party. If the party was a "scheduled" event for the daughter, the SS may have gone in and scanned the place for threatening devices, and even frisked all entering. They're not being paid to consider a penis a lethal weapon.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), April 29, 2001.

I missed that classic movie Anita. But yes, I'm sure the Secret Service allows adult presidential children their privacy just as they allow the President and spouse their privacy.

A little OT, I wonder how much it costs the US taxpayer to protect former presidents and their families? Are we still protecting the Fords, the Carters, the Nixon daughters? I hope not.

Remember the movie Guarding Tess with Kevin Costner and Shirley McLaine?

Didn't Tricia Nixon marry a Secret Service guy? Hmmmm.

I know I'm taking this thread further astray from the original intent, but since I'd already brought up Ecstasy and having MSN as my server, this one kindof showed up in my face and I have ANOTHER reason to offer it.

Daughter #2 still lives with her dad. He's not a religious person, but he's a conservative. For umpteen years now he's blamed me for every infraction in which daughter #1 engaged. I was too liberal with her. I just didn't discipline her enough. Heh.

#2 flew back home this morning, but the day after I wrote my last post on #1's experiences with Ecstasy, #2 shared with me that she had LOVED Ecstasy. Both she and her boyfriend loved the experience, but the cost was prohibitive. SHE knew that the heroin-based ecstasy could be identified by two little blue dots on the pills. Heh. We don't know WHAT our kids are doing anymore.

Here's a link from MSN that explains the phenomenon, but MSN links don't tend to stay long, so read it within a few days.

Heh. I ALSO found out that she was pregnant at one point. I'd never heard ANYTHING about this from my ex, and I was pretty shocked that she told him. He said, "There's no decision to be made. You WILL get an abortion." She miscarried early on in her pregnancy, and I'd had the same experience before #1 daughter, so that accounted for ANOTHER 2-hour conversation.

If I had to guess, I'd suggest that parents don't make a damn bit of difference in the paths their children choose. I've seen children of preachers INTENTIONALLY doing what they KNOW their parents wouldn't condone. I've seen other children raised by alcoholics turn into productive members of society. We ARE NOT our parents.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), May 01, 2001.

It seems as though I've forgotten how to make a link. Here's a second attempt

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), May 01, 2001.

Interesting post Anita. I know "E" is not always heroine based and you really cant rely on the 'blue dots'. My oldest has told me this.

He also tried it, on a few occasions, and liked it. Very costly, say um, up to $30 per pill.

Interesting that the ex is a conservative who insisted on abortion.

I get the old...your too lenient also, must be a guy thang. Lol.

In 20 years, Jenna will be a soccer mom and active in Republican women's circles. She will be alarmed at what the "younger" generation is doing. If she is reckless enough to get into politics herself, her opposition will dig up this long-forgotten story.

'Sumer: I don't think gender has anything to do with it. When SO's daughter moved in with us for that year she shared stories about her mother that led the young girl to seek psychiatric help to overcome the feelings of failure that the mother had encouraged. Like MOST stuff, these feelings aren't shared until 5 or 10 years after the fact. On greenspun fora, we never know who's doing the talking, but you might notice on another thread that Marg [or the Marg troll] is now accusing us all of abortions, etc.

Lars: Jenna and her sister may very well go another route altogether. I think it's one of Reagan's daughters that's now a free- lance writer who offers candid descriptions of the years at the White House and how she stole a pillow containing an elephant that she messed up trying to convert it into a donkey. Despite the leanings of her parents, she's taken another route.

Personally, I've seen it as a mark of success when my kids varied from MY progressive thinking, or their father's conservative thinking. I can't imagine anyone desiring Stepford children.

-- Anita (Anita_S3@hotmail.com), May 01, 2001.

Anita, you seem to have a ‘thing’ for donkeys. Not surprised.

-- Hee (haw@snort.snort), May 01, 2001.

Yeah I caught the other thread. Nice to know someone thinks they know me so well....NOT.

I wont respond to the troll/trolls re that issue. It is imho, very personal. I find it interesting you were accused of smoking pot and being a drunk...lol.

Sounds sooo familiar. And hey, dont forget the sound effects on the one thread ;-0.

As for the gender issue, yeah, your probably correct, I guess it works both sides of the fence.?
