How can I repair a concrete statue? (Misc.)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Does anyone know how to repair yard statues? I was given some concrete chickens, ducks, etc.that have some broken necks & bases. I wonder if they can be fixed to put in my flower garden. I have the real live chicks & ducks but want to keep them in the chicken yard. Any help is appreciated. Kaye, in Ill

They sell this stuff in tubes at auto parts store. It comes by different brands, here its known as Magna Flux. You just take some out of tube, mix it up with fingers (its fairly dry) and place. It ought to work really good on concrete. I have had it fix leaking carburator, car's gas tank (sheet metal screws put in around leak help it work better- something to grip onto). Concrete has plenty to grip onto... Just make sure surface is grit and wetness free. I bought a canoe once and I needed it that day to go on 2 week wilderness canoe trip. All welders in town (alum. canoe) were booked. I bought two tubes. i used half of one, and, to this day, the repair still works fine. Three years later! Plus, we were able to help some teens who had gouged their canoe with rock on the trip. I dont own stock in the stuff, I am just quite pleased with it.

Believe it or not but white PVA woodworkers glue is quite good for concrete! A 7 ton truck knocked a big chip off our house once which I fixed with PVA, it is still fixed after at least 10 years.

Liquid Nails or any epoxy also work.

Clear or white epoxy will work. An ancient mortar technique is beaten egg white and calcium dust.Mix it, smear it on, affix the broken part securely and heat. I read of a bridge in S. America that was mortared this way 500 years ago and is still in use.
