Seedlings to soil pots - Gardening

When does everyone move their seedlings to regular soil or do you? I have mine started in a soiless starter and they are doing well but it is still about 4 weeks before I move them to the garden. I would like to move them to individual newspaper pots so they can develop a better root system but didn't know when/if should I should transplant them?

Trisha - I usually transplant my my seedlings after they grow their first set of true leaves. I found they have a better chance of developing a good root system in their own individual pot.

Ditto the above response. Sometimes I wait a little longer, but only if I am stressed for time.

I start my seedlings in a pottong soil/wormcast compost mix in a newspaper wrap. When they are large enough I lift the newspaper bundle out of the start pot and plant the whole thing. No shock because the root system is never disturbed.

Thanks everyone. I spent the weekend making pots and will transplant them soon. Warm weather here but I know frost is still a possibility for a while.
