Two converters together?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have heard tha it is not possible to use two converters together in the eos system e.g a 1,4X & a 2X i understand that the original extenders do not fit into each other because the front elements are too outside the converter. Whta about third party convs? im using a kenko 2X 300 pro and i want to use it together with a 1,4X. they fit into each other and finnaly on the lens but the manual says they want work.does anybody know why they wont work?

The Canon 1.4x and 2.0x will work together if you put a 12mm extension tube between then, as a spacer so the protruding elements don't hit one another. With many (but not all) lenses, you can even get infinity focus with the combination if you do it right. See George Lepp's web site for specifics:

I just read where the new Canon converters can be stacked together. It seems they redesigned the 2X. The new converters have a "II" in the title decription.
