Bad Well Water

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Introductory Geology, Oswego State : One Thread

I live in a rural area where all of the community members use wells for their water access. The water that I get comes out extremely rusty. The high amount of iron in the water unfortunately is not the only problem. Because my water is so contaminated it leaves stains on all of the appliances and my clothes and hair has gathered tints of orange. What is causing the high amount of rust in my water and not the others? And what the heck can I do to get this rust out of my water? Is there a chemical that can react with the water so the water isn't so hard?

An iron deposit is causeing the rust problem. You can disinfect your well with chlorinated household bleach, for futher instuctions goto www.lambtonhealth.on.ca/water/wellwater.htm
