IA - Raccoon causes industrial power outage

The Hawk Eye

A raccoon that got into the Agency Street electrical substation and died, caused an hour-long power outage along Roosevelt Avenue and Agency Street.

Scott Smith, Alliant Utilities account manager in Burlington, said power was lost temporarily at General Electric, Federal Mogul and other businesses in the area for about 60 minutes.

"A raccoon got in there and did its business," Smith said, "and it paid the ultimate price."

The squirrel population has been severely depleted so the raccoons are ready to carry on the assault.

Actually...since the racoons already have a mask, maybe they're the ones really doing the damage in the first place - and the squirrels have just been taking the blame. They do play with nuts you know...

Nothing like some bad humor to start Tuesday off right...
