My bro mugs a mugger

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unk's Wild Wild West : One Thread

My 57 year old brother lives in a medium size mid-south city. As he walked in the downtown area last week in the evening he was accosted by a 20 year old waving a small caliber pistol. Bro set down his gym bag and said he'd give the kid his money, just be cool. The kid looked away, bro swung the gym bag and knocked the gun out of his hand. Bro then kicked shit out of the guy and threw the pistol down the sewar.

Sometimes things work out right.

FWIW, bro voted for Gore. Yes, it was a happy ending if it was an ending. Guys like that look for revenge.

Lars,

1. Based on your account, your brother didn't involve the cops, therefore the would-be mugger did not secure bro's name/address/etc. If that's the case, unless he was acosted while walking in an area he frequents as a matter of routine (same route taken daily), the mugger won't be able to track him down easily. Bro might wish to adjust his route to/from the gym for awhile just to be sure, or at the very least wear different fashion of clothes, shades, hat - alter appearance.

2. If the assailant was a crackhead or similar, bro has little to worry about. Crackheads generally concentrate on securing money for their drug, which is a full-time job for most. Vendettas are strictly extracurricular activity for these folks, low on the list of "Things To Do". I assume your brother doesn't run in crackhead circles.

3. Bro may wish to apply for a conceal/carry permit, if legal in his local. You may wish to inquire with one of our resident gun nuts[G] for more information. Or he can pack heat (always wanted to write that in a post) illegally.

Rich, good points. Bro doesn't own a gun and does not want to own one. He is a proud man, excessively so, and he walks the same route between his office and the downtown Y for his daily workouts. He might encounter the guy again just by accident.

I'm sure he will not modify his route just to be prudent. His mentality is "I won't let them intimidate me". He and I are very different that way. I am proud of what he did but I hope he is not asking for trouble.

BTW, did you ever see the movie Out of Sight? I love Elmore Leonard stuff. Remember what happened to the prison inmate who legitimately beat another inmate in a boxing match?

-- Lars (larsguy@yahoo.com), April 24, 2001.

Didn't see that particular film, Lars.

Brother has to realize the real world doesn't operate on the fairness principle. Better to learn this lesson the easy way, IMO. Why make it easy for the mugger to find him if there's a possibility of vengeance? Maybe bro wants the opportunity to kick some ass again.

Methinks that mugger, if he has any sense, will bring a friend next time. Hide the friend in an alley way, lure your brother in...

Hope this scenario doesn't play out. At least inform bro of this possibility, Lars. Broken bones are a large price to pay for foolish pride.

Lars: Your bro is the shit!!!!

YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad he did not get hurt. Sometimes those robbing have a look- out. He is very lucky.
