ati tv wonder vs. pinnacle dc10+

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have a p3 866 with a 20gb 7200rpm and a nvidia geforce2 mx 32mb video card and a sb live sound card.and cdrw I need to capture and edit videos from my 8mm camcorder with more or less the same quality and then be able to burn it into a cd, and I don't want to spent more than $100 in that. I have a doubt between the Ati tv wonder (not the all in wonder) and the pinnacle dc10+. Which one would you recomend just for capturing and if possible why. or any other better for my configuration and in that price. thank you very much regards

I have the ATI Tv Wonder and it works very good. I like the S-Video Capture, that is imperitive for quality if you have a source with S-Video. With your hard drive size you will get much better results capturing to .avi and then conveting to mpeg, so ignore the 'capture direct to mpeg' feature of the ATI, it is crap. The only thing I don't like is it does not have video out so if you want to export to a vdieotape or machine you are screwed, but if you wnat to make VCD's, no problem.

I've just evaluated those two cards, and pinnacle's one is the best option. The quality of its hardware compression is magnific, and its price too.

I have pinnacle studio DC 10+ capture card and premier 5.1. It's a good capture card. I used the bundle software of studio DC 10+ to capture movie then import in premiere and do the editing. For a price less then a hundred $, It 's good card.
