I am looking for any information on the railroads that were active in the Pocahontas, Arkansas area during the early 1900's. I was told that my Great grandfather worked for "the railroad" but am not sure how to find out which railroad was in that region. I have tried some history sites but mostly I end up with model railroading. Thank you for your time and effort. I appreciate it greatly.

True...that is correct. In addition, the St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern served Hoxie on a NE to SW tangent crossing the Frisco right in the middle of downtown. The Iron Mountain, as it was known, became part of the Missouri Pacific Lines.

Vici - In November 1901 the railroad through Pocahontas, Ark., was the Hoxie, Pocahontas & Northern RR., a 15 mile long line which connected Hoxie with Pocahontas via Walnut Ridge. That same month the HP&N was taken over by the Southern Missouri & Arkansas RR, which, just two months later, was taken in by the St.Louis, Memphis & Southeastern RR, a predecessor of the Frisco System of more recent times. Of course, if he had gone to Hoxie everyday to work, he may have worked for the Kansas City, Fort Scott & Memphis RR, another Frisco predecessor, which was the connection to the outside world for the HP&N.
