Problems with early production of EOS 3

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Hallo, which serial numbers of Canon EOS 3 have slower autofocus and cause underexposures? This information is somewhere on the web but I can not find it again.

Thanks. M. Majer

I don't think the cameras with underexposiure problems can positively be identified via serial number. SOME (but certainly not all) cameras with serial numbers starting with 24xxxx 25xxxx and 26xxxx have the problem. I think there's a date code after which there were no problems, but before which some (but certainly not all) cameras had an underexposure problem. The date was in early 2000, but I don't remember exactly what it was.

I'm not aware of any slow AF problems.

I too have never heard of a slow AF problem. I've had an EOS3 for about 18 months and the metering is very accurate (I mostly shoot chromes). You may wish to search the archives at

Certain people there loved to whimper and cry about the metering in early production models, so you should find plenty to consider. Canon can quickly fix the metering issue by reprogramming the ROM chip.
