  IMPORTANT SUPER-TAR NOTICE:

Any real OLD copies of LONE-TAR/CTAR/BackupEDGE created prior
to approx 12/97 have stopped executing as of today. This is a
Y2K issue. We will shortly have a patch on our website
to fix the problem... but these real old copies do need to
be upgraded ASAP as they are NOT Y2K. I have been advised from
my partner Steve that this is an issue with all the super-tar products.
This will not be an issue with all of you that have upgraded
  or purchased a super-tar as of 1998.

You can find out if you have the problem by:
  # lone-tar|ctar|edge cvf /dev/null /etc/default

If you get a licensing error, then you'll need to
  get the patch, or upgrade.

I've got to get back to the phones.... but I'll get more info
back shortly. I'm hoping Tom Podnar will jump in too and add his
expertise. I don't mean to step on his toes with this notice.

  We apologize for any inconvenience,

Great job getting the word out so quickly, Jeff!

Let me clarify a little with regard to Microlite Corporation
Products.

The problem Jeff refers to was resolved in BackupEDGE
beginning with our 01.01.00 release, which began shipping in
September of 1995.

Here's an update on all our products.

============================================================
If you have a Microlite BackupEDGE 01.00.0x
============================================================
o Your backups stopped working today (04/19/2001).
o You are NOT Y2K compliant.
o There may be other unresolved issues that are
    unidentified.

There is a patch to re-enable the product available on our
                          web site.

                 http://www.microlite.com

The currently tested patch will enable the product to
function until September 7, 2001. After that time you'll
need to have upgraded to a more recent version. This is
             definitely in your best interests.

Great find Spider! Wonder how many other software companies are quietly handling similar problems....

-- Carl Jenkins (somewherepress@aol.com), April 20, 2001.

Yea, it is refreshing to find a company that gives public notice of a problem.

Keep up the good work Spider.
