Preparation of Fiberglass before emulsion transfer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : polaroid transfers : One Thread

I am going to apply emulsion transfers to a large 3-D surface.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Does anyone have suggestions for the preparation of the surface - such as sanding, gesso overcoat, etc.

Thanks

I have done several on pieces of roofing slate -- I masked off the slate I didn't want primed and then sprayed several coats of spray 'Rust-Oleum Clean Metal Primer' -- just because I had some. Then I used the mylar sheet to place the emulsion transfer. The next day, sprayed with Krylon UV Resistant Clear. I waited a few days and coated with the marine polyurethane (don't remember brand). They look really good, and I've had them outside for 5 weeks now (mostly shade) to see how they hold up. I would recommend doing an experimental piece first ... hope this is helpful.
