Any experiences with The Herbal Healer Academy?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I'm interested in learning more about herbs and natural medicine. I noticed in the Countryside magazine the ad for The Herbal Healing Academy. They offer correspondence courses in the fields I am interested in learning. I want to know if anyone has ever had any previous experiences with them. I'm trying to look before I leap. All help and advice greatly appreciated. Marci

I have heard wonderful things about them, but never bought their course. I took the "East/West" herbal training program. I have also taken 'hands-on' courses.

The neat thing about EW is that you can truly go at your own pace. There is no time limit - the only thing they require is that if you haven't completed the course and they add new materials that you take the test on those. That isn't all that bad, because some states require you to continue your education to keep up your certification anyway.

Can't comment on this school but I have heard of it. I have studied with other herbal schools, though. I recommend Rosemary Gladstar's course at www.Sagemountain.com. She's up in Vermont and is a well known herbalist, plant conservationist, and writer. Her correspondence course is very reasonably priced and is excellent. You would certainly learn a great deal and if you are self-motivated learner, it would be perfect for you.

Sue, what recertification standards are you speaking of?

Marci, I sent the original amount they asked for in their brochure but never chose a course. We moved pretty close to the academy so decided to just go by and pick up course and save shipping prices but the place is NEVER open I've went by there many times. So I don't know if their up and up but it seems fishy their never open.

Don't bother. I got lesson one the other day and I feel like I wasted my money.Vicki

I purchased their first lesson also and thought it was a complete waste! Now I am on their mailing list and what they really want is to sell you something. It was extremely disappointing! Check out the classified listings in Herb Companion. Rosemary Gladstar has alot of integrity and is well known in the field.
