Fiona had a doeling yesterday afternoon!

Fiona had a doeling yesterday afternoon at 3pm. I really think she waited for me to go to the barn to clean stalls. I wasn't out there but 5-10 minutes before she kidded. She put her head in my lap bleated loud twice and the little girl was out. I waited, and worried, but there was only the one. I panicked when there was still mucus hanging at 7pm and called Vicki in Texas! She gave me some wonderful advice and I went in and checked for more kids but there wasn't any. Thanks, Vicki. The doeling is named Kiera (pronounced Keer-a) it's Gaelic for black/brown. She looks exactly like Fiona right down to the large white star on her forehead. Kiera's ears are a lot longer than Fiona's though. I still can't figure out which buck was the sire, she was in with a Pygmy and a Boer.

I had both of them out in the barn aisle this morning and Kiera's already bouncing around. The cats couldn't figure out what she was..there was a horrified look on their cat faces. They think Fiona is the spawn of the devil to start with and now she's multiplied. Well, I have to run, per Vicki's advice, I'm going to milk the colostrum and save it in the freezer. Wish me luck I've never milked a goat before!

I'll get some pictures of Fiona and Kiera up on the pictures page soon. Thanks to everyone that answered my nervous questions about kidding-especially Vicki.
