Best propagation book?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Freedom! self reliance : One Thread

I found out that I had some failures with my first attempts at seed saving. Some successes, too! I did everything the way I was supposed to according to the book that I have. Also, I have been wondering about a good book on propagating from root cuttings and leaves, etc. Does anyone have a bookk they would reccommend that covers all aspects of plant propagation....that you have tried the methods and had success with? Thanks!

Have a couple suggestions on both. You didn't give the title of the book on saving seeds that you have, so pardon if I list it here!

Seed to Seed Saving Seeds

Secrets of Plant Propagation

The second two are both by Storey Books. The first is commonly listed in BHM, MEN, and I have seen it in Countryside. Sorry... They aren't handy, so I can't name the authors.

Thanks, Sue. Mine is called Seed Sowing and Saving. It is most likely my fault and not the books, but I have seen some articles that describe different techniques than the ones in my book and I just thought that perhaps someone would have more experience with it than myself, and hopefully more success!

Doreen,

The book Sue mentioned, "Secrets of Plant Propagation" is the most excellent book I have seen on the subect. It is by Lewis Hill; the Storey paperback edition is dated 1985 and the ISBN is 0-88266-370-4. It is available from Amazon and probably Buybooks.com and Barnes and Noble as well.

For seed saving Marc Rogers' "Growing & Saving Vegetable Seeds"(1978 Garden Way)is pretty good and very basic. You can get it from Amazon and the rest, too.
