Cheap sync cords for EOS/Speedlite dedication

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Does anyone know whether it is possible to get a CHEAP third party off-camera sync cord that preserves dedication for the EOS300 and Speedlite 420EX? Surely it's just a matter of matching up the contacts on the EOS hotshoe, sending them through a 5 core cable and replicating them on a connector at the flash end - which I would do if I could get hold of the hotshoe connectors (but I can't find any suppliers). Why then do you have to pay £40 sterling for a 60cm genuine Canon one? Any suggestions gratefully received!

According to Canon you also have to get the impeadance correct for each of the six wires (Can't for get the contact in the side of the shoe can we?).

There was a manufacturer in England that was making these for the EOS 600/630 (David S.H. Leung, 33 Goodmayes Road, Ilford, Essex IG3, 9UN, England - Tel. 81 590 3268, 81 599 6657, FAX: 81 590 0293) Maybe you could run him down & talk him into providing Canon with some competition.
