I need sources for out of the ordinary herb seeds

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Thanks to everyone who answered my question about organic cures for blackspot on roses. I appreciate it very much.

Now I am looking for catalogs or websites for ordering herb seeds. Most catalogs, like Shumway's, or Pinetree Seeds, etc., sell the more common herbs: chamomile, lavender, rosemary, etc. I am looking for Meadowsweet, curry, Good King Henry, Alecost, Elecampane, Myrrh, Santolina, Soapwort, Alexanders, Valerian, Mullein, Vervain, Costmary, fleabane, horsetail, indigo, motherwort, calamint, arnica, alkanet, sainfoin, coltsfoot, nettle, skullcap, and the good, old-fashioned dandelion (which we don't have in Florida; we only have some pitiful, skinny distant relative.) Thanks to everyone.

Richters, The Herb Specialists had many of the herbs that you are looking for in their catalog. They're located in Canada, and on the web at WWW.Richters.com.

Stacy Rohan in NY

Horizon Herbs has all of those, and more! They are just wonderful folks to deal with, I can't say enough nice things about them. Their website is at

http://www.budget.net/~herbseed/gizhome.htm

They are a family-owned business and all of their seeds and plants are open pollinated or ethically wildcrafted, nothing GMO. The owner, Richo Chech, is on the board at United Plant Savers.

Myrrh is a resin or sap from a small tree that grows in the middle eastern dessert.I think there are a few species. You might be better off getting the tree ,if at all possible, as a lot of dessert scrubs and trees are slow growers

Hi Lela! I would definately get a Horizon Herbs catalog. They have many of the herbs you mentioned and tons more. They give a little tidbit on each herb in the catalog, so you can get an idea of what it takes to germinate, etc. Their phone is (541) 846-6704 or their website at Have fun! Brenda
