Tipi Living

I was wondering if any other people out there have tipi's? and do you use them a great deal or not at all? I have a 18' tipi that I use off & on the year round (more on during the fall and spring) and I find it a great way of getting back nature and relaxing.

I don't know if anyone here uses a tipi or not, but a family over at the Backwoods Home forum does use it for weekend rendezvous.

Here is the url for the forum for Backwoods Home. http://www.backwoodshome.net/forum/readforum.cgi

I don't have a tipi anymore, but I do just about live in a canvas wall tent from spring till fall. This year, it will be stationary on a platform out in the woods. It will stay there, and we will come into town during the week while Rich is at work. We are quite used to sleeping outside from about April through October.

The unfortunate thing about tents is you can't readily have a fire in them like you can in a tipi. Other than that, its about the same (unless your's is skin, but those are more than some houses these days!!)

Do you make your own tipi?? how do you construct one so it doesnt fall over in the wind. It would be fun to make one for my nephews.

Here's one version on how to make a tipi:

I will be living in a 26' medicine tipi with my four sons beginning in January or February. I guess it's the call of the wild that brings folks like us back to nature. If you haven't read "The Indian Tipi" by Reginald and Glady's Laubin you certainly would love it. Although I work for the USPS and make a good living, I don't have a life. Living in the tipi is the first step to living instead of surviving.
