It's really annoying, I'm having the same problem. The ATI websire says you can cure the problem by reinstalling windows... Great HUH, the problem seems to occur if you have had a previous ATI card and upgraded. I'm not reinstalling my windows so I will seek another solution. I will update this space if I'm succesful.

I am really fed up with ATI product. The best part is if u have ATI product , Ur patience level wil increase.. I bought a new hard drive and installed the software.. The old BTVID problem have been solved. But still lots and lots of troubles. Their tech support is the worst I've seen. I think I have to buy another hard drive to solve this issue(LOL). I will be asking them my money back(at least)... If ur 30 days are not over go and return the product.. DONOT waste time and money for ATI products.. Simply it doesn't work.. If it works , the quality and performance really sucks...

Same f'ing problem after I yanked my All in Wonder VE. Trying to run Netmeeting and I have to wade through 2 or 3 error screens before it starts the program. Anyone know if we can just reinstall the Brooktree drivers and just not use them?

-- (caratplus@hotmail.com), July 29, 2001.

BTvid = brooktree video capture software ( it wants to run its own driver on your system :( other than that .. I still dont know how to get rid of the stupid thing !

( for anti spam bot reasons .. my email has extra - - in it .. remove them to email me )

-- Presto (prestoLAN-@-netscape.net), August 29, 2001.

I purchased an ATI Wonder and it always displayed a wrong driver error message. I contacted the company and got a standard "solution" list of things to check, all did not fix the problem. I returned the damn card and wrote ATI's tech support, sales and Marketing departments, still no solution. Now I have the same problems as mentioned above. ATI Wonder SUCKS like a jet engine!! It's CRAP!!!! I too WILL NEVER BUY ANY OF THEIR PRODUCTS!!

I am searching the internet for Windows 98 version of the files to restore the Windows drivers.

I had a cheaper ati card and then upgraded to the ati all in wonder card and now i wonder if the wonder will ever work. i can hardly run any cam software - they all ask for the BtVid Vxd driver and even though i see it when i run "find files" it just doesn't work. I guess you are all right - ATI Sucks and they aren't interested in fixing the problem cheers vic

Same thing with me, i took out a TVWONDER(piece of shit)card and now when i use netmeeting it gives me, a failure loading VxD driver.

I’ve found a solution to this problem that worked for me.

Background:

a. I’ve been successfully using an Intel Pocket PC camera for video- conferencing, taking snapshots while connected to the PC, etc… b. I installed an ATI TV-Wonder VE card last week, and initially had some trouble recording TV clips. I upgraded the software after reading a recommendation to do so from the ATI web site. The ATI TV Wonder then worked perfectly. c. The Intel camera streaming video function (snapshot, video recording) stopped working, giving me the following error msg: “BtVid: Failure loading VxD driver”

Solution:

a. I followed the directions from Intel (below) to the letter. Basically it guides you through uninstalling the Intel drivers and USB drivers. b. This introduced a problem: my USB mouse ceased to function.(no USB drivers) c. At that point I loaded Win98SE again, over the existing OS. I reinstalled the mouse and Intel drivers/software. The mouse and Intel Camera worked fine. d. The ATI TV card would not work. I reinstalled the ATI updated drivers, this time saying ‘no’ to the prompts to replace ‘older’ files and drivers as it was loading.

All now works fine. Note that at no time where there ever VtVid.* files/drivers. Other drivers where incompatible, but returned the dreaded “VtVid.hlp not found” error msg. (I looked for them after reinstalling all, so I could pass them on to all)

Hope this may help someone, or at least give you an idea what to do, depending on your hardware situation. By the way, everything else on my PC ‘seems’ to be working fine also. ;)

I´m having the same problem with my camera usb creative. I´ll try to find a solution rather than re install windows. I´ll post any news about that.

-- ivan (ivanmar69@hotmail.com), October 07, 2001.

I have reinstalled windows. It does not help the problem. I am looking for the driver btvid.hlp. Anyone knows where to find it?

-- Jens Jensen (jensnyhavn@hotmail.com), October 23, 2001.

I had the same problem. I had the Fury Maxx 64 and the ATI TV Card with no problems. When I upgraded to Radeon-All-in-Wonder the experienced this same shit. I have all my CDs for apps and etc. Clean installed 98SE, apps and drivers, and now working fine. Took me a lot of time though. Good luck to all.

I have the ATI TV Wonder. Worked fine for a long time. I installed the new drivers when I installed my new mobo, now it gives me this crap. Honestly? ATI is probably laughing its collective heads off at our predicament. Their solution to problems is to bring out a new product; like the Rage Fury MAXX -- they came across a "bug", discontinued the whole line, and brought out the Radeon. You'd think they would catch on after a while...

My recommendation: uninstall your drivers and hunt down version 1.0 (could be on the CD that came with your card, check the version # on the CD). I know these never gave me any trouble. Alternatively, try the development drivers from support.ati.com I haven't tried them myself, but that would be the next step.

Finaly fixed the nasty little problem, I too have been stung by the BtVid problem. I only installed a Hauppauge TV Tuner card for testing and was not till quiet some time later that I used my video capture utility (Web Cam) that the evil BtVid Failure raised its ugly head. I had laboured for some time till discovering the fix is quiet a deal less painless than the discription above. Just go to http://www.hauppauge.com/html/sw_wcst.htm and run Hauppauge's extra bits un-installer under "Latest Utilities" and download "Clear all WinTV files and registry entries" run the uninstaller and restart & hay presto all gone!!

I have a similiar problem with btvid.vxd when starting my pencam as a livecam...but i found out if you are persistent enough it takes about 4 clicks in the messagebox and the problem solves itself.... weird..but i think it then uses another driver when system gets tired of the troublesome driver (btvid).

Stupid solution.....but it works...

meow there, I have one of those cheap ass tview99 cards. IT SUPER SUCKS! I wana start doin some webcam "videos" and im gettin the same fricken btvid error (#large sigh). I have one of those EPHOTO CL18 web/port cams (just call me the cheapo princess ;] ) and it seems that the friggen brooktree dumb asses made their drivers alto, so they are ultra on the windows os (try linux!). I have the help file for the btvid thang, ill put it up soon. So far i found that this works:

Pull your brooktree chip set card and flush it in a sulfuric bath(jk)! Take out ne thang that has to do with brooktree crap. Get another NON BROOKTREE tvcard (if you must). if your trying to do some webcam crap just use netmeeting and a screen capture app over the vid overlay. it seems to werk for me.

SORRY TO SPAM BUT... look for some of my videos on limewire soon!

YEEE HAW! meow there,

I figured it out! Its quite easy! Ok listen this is the easiest way to do this:

go to windows file search and look for files named "btvid", get an app named eraser from download.com, dont start ne thang that uses the any VIDEO STUFF AT ALL!, use the eraser app to frag those little btvid drivers back to hell (where they belong!), and res your system.

This seemed to werk for me, i dont know if it will for yal. thx for yah help meow for nah.

The following error may occur when attempting to capture using the ATI TV Player from Multimedia Center 6.00:

"BTVID: failure loading VXD driver"

The error "Unable to draw data format" may also appear in conjunction with the BTVID failure error.

This error is believed to occur if an ATI-TV WONDER was previously installed on the system.

Removing and re-installing both Windows and the ATI Multimedia Center software should allow the ATI TV Player to function correctly.

ATI Software Engineering has been advised of the above issue and is investigating.

For advance users only ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1) go to regedit 2)look for btvid 3) delete the keys

PS if you are not sure ask someone who knows how to use regedit...or else you may fry your OS by accident!

This is in response to BFL's comments posted Feb 4/02. The program would give the "failure loading VXD driver message". All you do is keep clicking 'ok' button for a long time (took me more than 4 tries) and eventually it will give you the option to select another source. Be persistent. It's not the most intuitive thing in the world, but it works. Good luck
