But, but....ummmm..we didn't apologize, we sent a 'formal statement of regret', doncha know....uh, huh, yep, yep, yep.

Excuse me while I gag.

Okay, I'm back. This whole thing smells of PR (for W, perhaps?) and/or wag-the-dog to me. Sorry, I don't buy it. Something's up, and it stinks to high heaven. IMHO

As the NYT put it, "...pilot...presumed dead", and now we're playing kissy-face, and my-oh-my ain't Dumbya lookin' good now?! My hero. (ooops, sorry, here it comes again... )

Stinky, stinky, stinky! Don't get me wrong; I'm absolutely delighted that our servicemen/women are being brought home.... but... we're they actually ever in danger? OR... is someone running a film for our benefit; a finely orchestrated look-over-here-not-there play; a volume 5, act 14 of the NWO? Your guess is a good as mine .... but, I do not, for a second, believe we're seeing the whole truth, and nothing but the truth..........

Just some Bandrui thoughts.

The truth is that our plane DID hit their plane. Dumbya did a lot of pleading and ass-kissing to get our guys released, and the Chinese agreed not to disclose the truth as long as they could show the letter to the news and he would have to use the word "sorry" at least twice.

This photo tells the story... if their plane had backed into ours, the propeller would be bent backwards. Whether it was intentional or caused by an adjustment by the autopilot, it is clear that the wing was tipped downward, forcing the propeller to hit their jet.

american,

Huh? Where did you learn about aviation? Your statement above just does not make sense.

First, can you explain how an F8 (a fast jet interceptor) could possibly back into a P3 (a slow turbo-prop aircraft)? Perhaps you mean that the USA aircraft was flying faster than the Chinese one, but that is an almost ludicrous situation.

Second, The damage to the wing tip, the outer engine and the nose, taken together show that the P3 was either flying straight and level at the point of impact, or that the other aircraft was climbing into the P3s path. For your claim to be correct, can you explain the aerodynamics of how an aircraft the size of a P3 can make a rapid flat turn?

Malcolm, you are an idiot.

An F8 can certainly fly faster than a P3, but it can also slow its speed to the same or slower than the P3.

Dumb Moron, (what an apt name you have chosen for yourself)

Yes an F8 can fly as slow as a P3 in cruise, but to do so requires a relatively high AoA which makes for a relatively unstable situation. Most pilots would not chose to put their aircraft into such a situation, but then again it sounds as if the chinese pilot has always been a bit of a cowboy. But you still haven't answered the question of how the damage can occur to the wing tip, propellor and nose unless either the P3 was straight and level, or the other aicraft was climbing into its path?

American, What gives the the idea that those propellers have the ability to bend?

A common tactic of the "hot dog" fighter pilot, of which this Chinese pilot was known to be is as follows...

The pilot takes his plane under the target plane, close enough that the other pilots cannot see his plane under theirs. He hits the thrusters, and performs a hard forward and up, attempting to pull it up past the target planes cockpit just yards in front of it, and at high speed, thereby surprising and scaring the heck out of the target pilots. This chinese pilot may have attempted such, but blew it, and knocked the nose cone off the P3, while his wings hit the prop of the P3. A little more believable than the P3 plane veering into the chinese fighter jet.

‘American’, ‘dumb moron’, etc.

You sir/madam, are without a shadow of doubt the most ignorant fool to ever clutter these pages. Your knowledge of aviation is questionable and your lack of patriotism is deplorable. You ARE the ugly American and for sure a dumb moron.
