LTV----Going Down FAST-- Cleveland's Economy

SheeeeeeeIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!

Kb, over 1,000 and they are not saying how many over 1,000 will be laid off. I remember someone saying that we will be another youngstown.

It is NOT lookin good for NE Ohio. Layoffs to come REAL soon, I predict before end of month, if not sooner.

Those with over 34 yrs are gettin axed and union vows to fight.

I feel soooo bad for each and everyone.

Damn, the South is lookin better all the time.

'sumer, dear, the south is full of ticks and chiggers and high heat with humidity. Hold fast!

She and her husband should give serious thought to moving south to the Columbus area, though. This area will weather the next recession just fine. NW, NE, and SE OH will fall into the toilet, again. They just barely got going somewhat recently after the last recession, and parts of SE OH are *still* dead economically.

"the south is full of ticks and chiggers and high heat with humidity"

I'm pretty sure ticks and chiggers are everywhere there's animals and moss. I've heard of cases of lyme disease (caused by deer ticks) as far north as Vermont. You'll find chiggers anywhere you find moss (which may only be in the south??)

Heat and humidity is another story. It does get hot down here, but according to the daily weather reports, it gets hot everywhere else in the summertime too. The secret to moving to the south and being able to beat the heat - MOVE NEAR THE COASTLINE SO YOU CAN ENJOY THE OCEAN EVERYDAY OF YOUR LIFE (it is a little cooler on the coast with the sea breeze).

And you'll never shovel another driveway of snow as long as you live!

Just food for thought sumer......

sumer,

What is LTV (I figured out it's a company)?

About how many people overall do they employ there?

-- Sounds (pretty@bad.sorry), April 16, 2001.

LTV is a MAJOR steel company here in NE Ohio.

They employ (geez lemme guess here, bout over 5,000?)

At any rate they are closing west side plant over 1,000 will go.

They still have East Side plant running, but big fear is not for long.

Pensions and such are at stake and those who work there are REALLY pissed.

LTV bought out J&L which was another company years ago. LTV has filed bankruptcy protection, but it isnt gonna be enough. Although, LTV DID file once before and came back to life, it is NOT happening this time, unless we get a miracle.

LTV is (was) also a major employer where I grew up, Northern Minnesota. A major LTV taconite mine was shut down in the 80's, and they froze up the pension fund for almost a decade while they worked out the asset distribution.

I think the ideas and motivations behind any kind of class warfare are always suspect, but when you see LTV execs making multi-million dollar bonuses while people who used to work in their mines are applying for unemployment, it rankles just a bit.
