E-Chalk

My district seems to be headed toward buying into the E-chalk system for the district website and for official school websites. I'm skeptical of pre-packaged websites, but does anyone have experience with it?

Here is eChalk's website.

I wonder what products eChalk competes with.

Here's a link to one of our schools (Mott Hall) using the e-chalk template.

If the problem is to prvide email and a convenient way to publish school information, I think eChalk is pretty nice. For example just managing email accounts, teacher bio's, and a calendar system is a pain. So, the Mott school site had information I wanted to know. I don't know how deep it goes though. For example, can a teach post study links, a reading list, study documents, a picture, or a long bio? I suspect he can.

If the goal support the creativity of students and others, to teach HTML, FPT, and all the technical stuff, learn good design by practicing bad design, you probabaly need something else in addition the eChalk.

We have looked at the E-chalk system for our county and decided that we would buy FrontPage for the entire county instead. We are training our webmasters at each school during the summer. The webmasters will then go back and train their teachers. We feel this allows more individuality for our school system. This is also a much cheaper option and one that will remain viable for years to come. Plus, we are getting much needed technology training ours as our state of North Carolina demands. Please visit my school's site, which was created with FrontPage...www.wcpatriots.com
