Video editing: BEFORE or AFTER MPEG encoding?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi

I'm just wondering which is the best way of video editing which will give the BEST RESULT (both video & audio) at the end: a) edit AVI first then convert that segment of my choice to make MPEG b) Convert AVI to MPEG first then edit the MPEG segment of my choice

Also, which software would be suitable to do EITHER (a) or (b), preferbly FREEWARE but I will try SHAREWARE/DEMOS too.

THANKS!

It's ALWAYS BEST to edit the *.avi BEFORE encoding. After editing your *.avi, you can open it in TMPGenc, where there are tabs for encoding the exact segment you want in your *.avi to *.mpg.

However, if you simply want to cut or join segments of your MPEG video, TMPEnc is a good tool for this purpose.
