Could Rosetti be a valid Dalmatian name? : LUSENET : Dalmatian culture : One Thread

My family immigrated to the U.S. during the last decade of the 19th century from Dalmatia (Split, Starigrad, Brac, Hvar). I'm trying to find out if the name could have remained unchanged during the immigration process (Dalmatia was once governed and influenced by Venice, maybe some Italian sounding names remained) or if the name was converted from Croatian to Italian, for example Martinich=Martino, (they had to first go through Italian customs in order to embark for the U.S., and the passport says "Rossetti"). Any insight would be much appreciated.

Yes Rossetti is one of many Dalmatian names that have gone done in history as Italian or Spanish.
