I was very lonely about 18 years ago after a divorce. The ex even turned my kids against me. I have only 2 that associate with me. After almost 3 years I joined a singles group dance club and I found my angel.

Now over 15 years of being happyly married, I still have bad dreams about being all alone with no purpose in life. Those dreams come about once a month. That shows that lonelyness can have a real impact on your life. The best way to overcome lonelyness is to find a good woman. There are roses among the thorns! but be careful. It is like a used car market out there. Don't get somebody elses problem! Good luck!

Get a dog, they are better than people.

There is a difference bewtween loneliness and being alone. Loneliness often afflicts people who have not learned how to be alone. Being at peace with one's self is the greatest defense against loneliness. It may be time to consider therapy, or any other number of self-help options to see why you feel negatively about yourself. It is hard to feel "lonely" when you fell good about yourself.

I'd have to second the dog idea - not only do you have a companion but you'd also find that people are much more open to approaching you when you're together (pit-bulls notwithstanding).

Read. Do you have an education? Do what you've been taught. You have much more time than you've ever imagined.

Mr Shyster, you are not alone in your loneliness. Don't let it beat you.
