#marp move?greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread |
OK, from previous posts on here about the IRC channel for MARP, it's pretty obvious that EFnet is a pain in the ass and moving elsewhere would be a good idea.Gameboy9 suggested starlink, and I agree. It seems like a pretty good network. The thing is, we need to have a channel owner, and 7 supporters. I would have to be the owner, because of the bot that announces uploads and tracks our users (bots need to be owned by the channel owner). This isn't a problem for me at all, I'm familiar with IRC garbage, and I've been helping out with the channel for quite a while now :)
So, I need 7 supporters for this move - send your nickname and email address to me at seymour@iname.com, and I'll set things up, and announce it here when things are done. And if anybody actually has any objections to this move, voice them here. Overall, I think more people will be pleased with the move.
I apologize to Gameboy9 for going ahead and posting this message without waiting for his reply to my email :) But since not everbody on #marp regularly reads this message board, spread the word! I don't want anybody's opinion to be left out.
...hoping for a better irc experience...

I disagree. EFnet does have its periods of instability, but it's still a fine network. Also, since I'm an op in a certain other channel, I'd need to have two mircs open to be there and #marp - which means I'd never come to #marp.
Moving to a no-name irc network won't help much on the quality of the experience, and it certainly won't encourage other people to come aboard.

I almost always have two mIRC windows open at the same time anyway... one to EFNet and the other to OpenProjects. Why not move to OpenProjects instead?

Hmm... I never even thought about OpenProjects - I go there a lot myself. That could work. Maybe we should have a discussion about where to go, if anywhere. As for not leaving EFnet, there are some people that can't manage to get on any servers, which is obviously a problem. Having 2 copies of mIRC open isn't too big of a deal. I wouldn't be leaving EFnet totally myself, being an op in another channel there as well.

I went ahead and registered #marp on OpenProjects (irc.openprojects.net) in case that is where we end up. Things are easier to get done on this network, too.I change my recommendation to move to this network instead of starlink :)

HiI can't find that OpenProjects server. It is not listed on my mIRC program. Please help.
Bye.

Connect to irc.openprojects.net and get a server list.
