Color film printed as black and white?

I was told by a collegue that he has his some of his color negatives printed as black & white, what type of film and be used for this?

Answers

It's not dependend of the film used but it the paper the picture printed on. It's a special type of B+W paper, so called panchromatic B+W paper. Kodak Panalure is an example and must be treated slightly different as "normal" (orthochromatic) paper.

As Marc states, Panalure is a good choice. You'll get more midtones and less contrast using this but you have to work in complete darkness. You can print on regular B/W paper but your results will be better with Panalure... get the higher contrast version because the low contrast version is really low. Cheers
