hey party people i read that raves started in and around London in the late 1980's. from there it gained underground following throughout Eurpoe and into the US, espescially in San Fransico. don't quote me, but that is what i read! the internet has a lot of interesting stuff posted about raves.

The beginning of electronica was somewhat mimicked from guy clubs. they took disco music and played with it. I once heard that the first pioneers of this music were a few hippies. Don't know if that is true or not. I read some cool shit on the internet a couple of days ago..it gave the description of every type of electronic music. I'm sure you could find something similar. It's funny that you ask because I am looking to obtain the same info....good luck

oh man... the collective history of the modern global electronic dance music movement can be traced back to everything from the pinoneers of electronic music in the former half of the 20th century (stockhausen, messaien, xenakis, etc) to the 60s hippie movement to the 70s german industrial/technopop movement (kraftwerk especially) to the punk movement to the disco movement to the hip hop movement to the new romantic/new wave/synthpop movement to the 80s underground club movement (nyc electro, detroit techno, chicago house, miami bass, etc) to the late 80s UK acid house movement... somewhere around 89, 90, all this kinda came together into this massive thing we know as "rave culture" (which started out purely illegaly, finding its home in abandoned warehouses, public fields, etc)

hope any of that made sense/helped..

The real raves, hardcore gabber raves, began in Holland. In the 90's these raves became really big (from 10.000 to 50.000 people!!!). Holland is the only country (as far as I know) where you can find raves as big as this. By the way, in Holland raves are called house parties. If anyone wants to know more, mail me.

If you want to go back to the basics with house it was started by a man in Chicago named Frankie Knuckels. He took a rolland 808 and laid a 4/4 drum beat over some disco in a place called "The Warehouse" and that is how house music was born. The first rave on the ohter hand took place in the late 80's in the outskirts of London.

i belive raves started in the sixtees with hippys dancing for freedom and love to groovy beats, then transformed into disco to new wave then now what it is today.

The music started in The States, it was picked upon by a handful of people from London masquerading as DJ's on the Balearic Islands circa.1987 and along with MDMA was embraced by clubs like The Hacienda in Manchester, and Shoom/Spectrum in London... In other words, the music was blueprinted (via Germany) by American artists such as Knuckles, Saunderson, Banks, Atkins, Mills et al whereas the 'culture' was mapped out via the UK - Manchester & London in particular... ElectroAcoustic and early pioneers of synthesised music such as Stockhausen, Moog, Theremin had absolutely NOTHING to do with 'rave culture' more to do with 'serious' electronic composition and experimentation... And Gabba, well that kicked off much later in The Netherlands around '90/'91 I think...

raving i believe is a natural progression of what used to be hippie culture. That is, a set of values and beliefs that..... we should be able to dance, smoke, drink, take drugs, laugh, cry- wotever, to loud music, as long as we're not harming anyone else. To me, there is nothing better than dancing to a phatt rig, in a field on a sunny day. sonia. ps raves started in u.k in 80's

I think you will find that Blue Monday by New Order (orginally Joy Division) was the start of todays modern house parties / raves. It then went onto Happy Mondays @ the hacienda who started off the rave culture with "E's" etc. during the eighties - raves would be nothing without this drug! - it all started in Manchester then went nationwide over England then global. Watch the film twenty four hour party people and this should explain all.....

The Rave scene exploded over here (Uk) sometime in the 80's. God knows where it came from but it sure is fun. It continues in a more passive way today but its not the same without the ever important danger element. Everythings far too exposed these days I feel. Although its inevitable that popularity is forever to be controlled by people who wish to gain from it. Money money money.. blah blah blah.. And popping is fine if you accept the consequences. Atleast you dont affect people around you when you smoke. Ecstasy is especially good. Spread the love thick!
