Time to do your own show?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Junkyard Wars : One Thread

Many of the threads on this site are about teams that are frustrated with the waiting to be picked for the show. One possible solution (to at least grab some local fame and kill a little time while you wait) might be for teams to do their own local show while they wait. Many parts of the US have active Community Access TV channels where any local resident over the age of 18 can take free classes in television production and make their own TV show using the access station's equipment, studios and editing bays- all for free. The resulting show is even aired for free. It can be hard work- and take way longer than you might think- but it is Way Cool to see your stuff on TV.

My wife and I did this for years. We made documentaries, teleplays, even a game show. It's hard work- harder than building things- and takes considrably longer than ten hours. Still, it was very satistfying and we did make a name for ourselves. (Sure my name's a four letter word. What's your point?) Check with your local cable TV company about local community access TV. You could be a star!
