Delphi Automotive to cut 11,500 jobs worldwide DETROIT, Michigan, March 29 (AFP) - US-based Delphi Automotive Systems announced Thursday it would cut 11,500 jobs worldwide, closing nine factories and consolidating workforces at 40 locations throughout the company.

Delphi, a former affiliate of General Motors, announced in a statement it would cut five percent of its workforce in attempts to streamline its operation and "strengthen its competitive position."

According to the restructuring plan, Delphi will cut 7,600 jobs in the United States and 3,900 worldwide, said the company's chief financial officer Alan Dawes.

Factories closing in Europe include a facility in Ande in France, Southampton in Britain, Bochum in Germany, and Casoli in Italy.

Two Brazilian factories, one in Betim in Minas Gerais province and the other in Piracicaba will also be closed.
