Just starting out

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

I think I'm getting this submission business all wrong....but I am just starting out in photography and have no idea about what makes a good/interesting photo. I was pleased with this bee, am I kidding myself? Any critisism and advise would be very welcome.(No manipulation or cropping, only compression) Thanks, in anticipation.

Jean,

It's a good photo, but it may have been a little better from a different angle where you could see more of the face.

Good luck Kevin Ferris

Good picture. I feel that the light green stem on the back of the bee is annoying. Also the red petal on the left can be cropped out.

Agree with the above, plus I think the bee demands more depth of field. Not a bad first submission. You'll find as you go along that you need to be your own worst critic, but it's hard to do it at first. It's especially hard when non-photographer friends give you nothing but praise. Posting here will help you a lot, just remember not to take criticism personally and take feedback as constructively as possible. Keep posting.
